The government has so far repossessed three shipyards in Coloane’s Lei Chi Vun Village that it plans to revitalise, Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said yesterday.

The tourism chief made the remarks on the sidelines of a promotion fair hosted by the People’s Government of Hainan Province at Grand Hyatt Macau in Cotai yesterday.

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng said in January the government wanted to co-operate with the local shipbuilding sector to boost tourism in the village, where a number of traditional shipyards with “the potential to become tourist attractions” are located.
