The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a mainlander on Sunday for claiming he could sell a gambler non-negotiable chips worth HK$2.6 million for half the amount, PJ spokesman Leng Kam Lon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the suspect is a 32-year-old man surnamed Zhang. He told the police that he works as a manager. The male victim is a tourist from the mainland whose personal information was not released.

The suspect met the victim on New Year’s Eve last year. The suspect told the victim that he could introduce him to a man in a casino VIP room who could sell him non-negotiable chips worth HK$2.6 million for HK$1.3 million. Non-negotiable chips are also known as dead chips in the local gaming jargon.
