Non-establishment lawmaker Sulu Sou Ka Hou and his fellow activists from the New Macau Association (NMA) distanced themselves yesterday from a gathering reportedly planned for next Monday against alleged police violence in Hong Kong.
In a statement released on the association’s Facebook page, the association says that it is “not the organiser [of Monday’s gathering], and we do not know the organiser.” However, the association added that “it must be stressed that all Macau citizens have the right to hold protests to express their views”.
The statement came after local residents received a message from an anonymous group on their Facebook pages and WeChat accounts earlier in the day that said the gathering would be held in the city’s main square – Largo do Senado – on Monday night.
