The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a mainlander on Wednesday for illegally imprisoning his landlord for half an hour inside a flat in Rua de Pequim over a 20,000 pataca dispute, PJ spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a special press conference yesterday.
According to Ho, the suspect and the victim are both from the mainland. The male suspect, 49, surnamed Cai, told the police that he is unemployed. The male victim’s personal information was not released.
Ho said that Cai and the victim were friends, and Cai was renting the victim’s flat in Rua de Pequim. When the victim asked Cai to give him back over 20,000 patacas that he had spent on furniture for the flat, Cai refused to hand over the money. During the ensuing argument, Cai blocked the front door with a sofa to prevent the landlord from leaving the flat for about 30 minutes so the victim phoned the 999 emergency hotline.
