The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said late last night on its website that it expects the storm warning signal No. 3 to remain in effect at least until 10 a.m. today, adding that the hoisting of the typhoon signal No. 8 was unlikely for the – unnamed – tropical depression, which was moving towards the southern island province of Hainan.
According to the website, the tropical depression was located about 340 kilometres south-southwest of Macau at 1 a.m. today and was moving west at a speed of around 25 kilometres per hour.
The bureau hoisted the stand-by signal No. 1 at 9:30 a.m. and hoisted the storm warning signal No. 3 at 5 p.m.
