Lawmakers Mak Soi Kun and Zheng Anting have proposed a motion calling for a debate on whether the government’s proposed changes to the city’s taxi regulation would help improve the quality of the city’s taxi service and protect the “legal rights of the taxi drivers obeying the law”.

The motion is to be debated and voted on during a plenary session of the legislature. The date is yet to be announced. The two lawmakers sent copies of their joint motion to the media yesterday.

Both of them are among the 99 vice-presidents of the Macau Jiangmen Communal Society. Macau has a sizeable community of immigrants from Jiangmen, a prefecture-level city in Guangdong province.
