Macau’s number of visitor arrivals from South Korea fell 39.3 percent year-on-year to 46,903 last month, while those from the nine Greater Bay Area (GBA) cities in Guangdong province rose 27.5 percent to nearly 1.05 million, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced this week.
According to a DSEC statement, last month’s visitor arrivals dropped 13.6 percent year-on-year to 3.08 million. Same-day visitors (1.6 million) and overnight visitors (1.47 million) declined 12.1 percent and 15.3 percent respectively. Visitors’ average length of stay remained unchanged year-on-year at 1.2 days. Overnight visitors’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 2.2 days.
Mainlanders accounted for nearly 68 percent of all visitor arrivals in December. Some 55 percent of all mainland visitors were from Guangdong. The number of mainland visitor arrivals dropped 14.5 percent year-on-year to 2.09 million. Nearly 92 percent of Macau’s visitor arrivals last month were from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong. While Hong Kong visitor arrivals declined 3.9 percent to 655,129, those from Taiwan dropped 14.3 percent to 79,714.
