Three mainlanders were arrested on Wednesday in an illegal inn for producing and putting into circulation forged HK$1,000 notes which they made by using craft pigments and nail varnish to “upgrade” replica notes they bought on the Internet, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a special press conference yesterday.
Leng said that the Judiciary Police were informed on Sunday by the security department of a casino that they had discovered seven HK$1,000 bogus notes.

According to Leng, the Judiciary Police checked the casino’s security camera footage and their city-wide CCTV system, which enabled them to identify three male mainlanders, a 37-year-old surnamed Zhang, a 38-year old surnamed Shang and a 40-year-old surnamed Zhou as suspects in the case. The trio were arrested in the illegal inn in Zape. PJ officers seized 20 fake HK$1,000 notes and the materials used for producing the bogus money.
