A total of 6,140 companies were newly incorporated in Macau last year, a year-on-year increase of 187 new incorporations, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced this week.
According to a DSEC statement, the newly incorporated companies' registered capital soared 334 percent year-on-year to 4 billion patacas (US$500), which was namely due to an upsurge in the capital in the transport, warehousing and communications sector, as well as the financial services sector.
The number of companies in dissolution stood at 885 last year, involving a registered capital of 235 million patacas.
Nearly three-quarters of the newly incorporated companies last year registered a capital below 50,000 patacas. Merely 121 new companies were registered with a capital of at least one million patacas.
At the end of last year, the number of registered companies in Macao increased by 5,254 year-on-year to 71,440.
