One of the subcontractors involved in the construction of the new prison in Coloane protested outside the Legislative Assembly (AL) yesterday, alleging that the government had refused to pay the extra charges caused by the project’s repeated delays.

According to a report by the Chinese-language radio channel of government broadcaster TDM, the subcontractor protested outside the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) on Tuesday. He told reporters that day that after failing to get in touch with DSSOPT officials, he hoped protesting outside the bureau would help attract their attention.

Speaking to reporters outside the legislature yesterday, a spokesman for the subcontractor, surnamed Ho, said he hoped that protesting outside the Legislative Assembly would convince some lawmakers to help with the company’s case.
