The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement yesterday that they were aware of an online message claiming that a PSP officer had travelled to Europe this month.

The statement clarified that the officer in question is a member of the PSP Tactical Unit. The message had claimed that the officer was a member of the local government’s protective security unit.

The statement did not say when the message circulated online and who wrote it.

According to the statement, the officer left Macau early this month to visit a relative who had sustained an injury. He travelled from the Hong Kong International Airport to the destination in Europe which at that time was not a high-risk COVID-19 country and consequently was not covered by the Macau Tourism Crisis Management Office’s travel alert, the statement underlined.

Therefore, according to the statement, the officer did not require medical observation when he returned to Macau. The statement did not reveal the officer’s destination in Europe, nor did it say when exactly the trip took place.

The statement pointed out that in line with Macau’s epidemic prevention guidelines, the officer submitted his health declaration required for public servants after returning to Macau and is currently on a 14-day holiday before returning to work.

In order to cooperate with the government’s COVID-19 epidemic prevention measures, the Public Security Police have urged their personnel to stay in Macau during the current epidemic and avoid travelling abroad.
