The Macau government announced on Friday the city’s 34th novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case, a local resident who returned with his two children from visiting his wife in the Philippines on March 18.

According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Prevention Centre, the 43-year-old man travelled to the Philippines with his son and daughter in November to visit his wife in Manila. On March 18, he and his two children took Cathay Pacific Airways flight CX902 (business class seat 14A) from Manila to Hong Kong, where they arrived at about 9 p.m. They then took a bus to Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.

Upon arrival in Macau the man and his children did not show any COVID-19 symptoms but were told to go into 14-day home quarantine, based on the regulations in force at that time. They told Health Bureau (SSM) officials that they took bus route 101X from the border checkpoint to their home and always wore facemasks during their trip from Manila to their flat in Block I of Wah King Garden in Areia Preta district.

The man tested positive for COVID-19 today. The statement described his condition as “normal”. He remains under observation at the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre.
