A local man is facing a charge of dangerous driving that caused a public bus to crash into the back of his car, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Kam Ka Kit said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Kam, the driver of the car was dissatisfied with the bus driver who had honked his horn when one of the car passengers was opening the door close to the bus.
The car was driving behind the bus but suddenly cut in front of the bus after which the bus crashed into the back of the car, Kam said.
The suspect is a 44-year-old local man surnamed Wong who works as a casino shuttle bus driver.
According to Kam, the police received a report on March 9 about a traffic accident near the Barrier Gate. When questioning the two drivers, the bus driver told the police that about 15 minutes before the accident he was driving in Rua da Serenidade when one of the passengers in a private car opened the car door very close to the bus. He honked the horn to alert the car driver who reacted by chasing after the bus and suddenly cut in front of it. The bus driver said that he had been able to slow down the bus in order to avoid colliding with the car.
Kam said that after the first incident the two drivers continued to drive towards the zebra crossing near Choi Nong Chi Tai School. Wong again cut in front of the bus and this time the bus driver failed to avoid crashing into the back of the car. No-one on the bus was injured. Police officers later scrutinised the bus CCTV footage and concluded that Wong had engaged in dangerous driving.
According to Kam, Wong has meanwhile been transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP), facing a charge of dangerous driving.
