Hong Kong reported yesterday just one locally-contracted COVID-19 case, although a further 10 imported cases took the city's total to 1,001, public broadcaster RTHK reported last night.
According to the report, at just 11 the number of confirmed cases was the lowest in several weeks, although officials warned against complacency despite the downward trend.
"If you take a seven-day moving average, the trend is downward," Chuang Shuk-kwan, a spokesowman for the Centre for Health Protection, told a daily press conference yesterday. "I hope that this is a persistent trend, not a temporary trend, and we will not have a rebound," RTHK quoted her as saying.
"Because of the long incubation period, the situation now is reflecting about one or two weeks before. I'm not sure about the coming trends so we need to maintain vigilance," Chuang added.
Hong Kong has a novel coronavirus death toll of four.
Hong Kong has a population of 7.4 million.
Macau, which has a population of about 680,000, has 45 confirmed COVID-19 cases, with no deaths. Unlike Hong Kong, Macau has been spared a community outbreak of the highly infectious disease.
Meanwhile, the global number of COVID-19 cases stood at 1.73 million with 106,423 deaths at 12:25 a.m. today (Macau time), according to worldometers.info.
