Public Security Police (PSP) officers found drugs in the car of a local resident at a random roadblock checkpoint in Avenida Sun Yat-Sen in Nape early Friday and later seized more drugs from his flat, PSP spokesman Choi Iok Kin said in a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Choi, the police found nine grammes of Ketamine and cocaine in the car and the flat.

The suspect is a local man in his twenties surnamed Lei, who told the police that he is unemployed.

According to Choi, the police intercepted the car driven by Lei during their routine operation. Due to Lei’s “look of panic”, PSP officers searched him and the vehicle. They found “white powder” hidden in several folded money notes, as well as 11 small packets of Ketamine and cocaine during the search.

Afterwards, the police went to Lei’s flat where they found another 10 packets of drugs. Lei claimed that he had bought the drugs from a male friend in Iao Hon district earlier that night for 4,000 patacas. After taking some drugs, Lei went for a drive until he was intercepted by the police.

Lei admitted that he is a drug user. After being taken to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for examination, Lei tested positive for cocaine. He denied that he was selling drugs, but the amount of drugs seized from him constitutes the crime of drug trafficking, according to Choi.

Lei was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Friday for a follow-up investigation, facing charges of the illegal use of, and trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances, according to Choi.

This undated handout photo provided by the Public Security Police (PSP) yesterday shows evidence seized from the suspect such as an ash tray, a bag, folded money notes with drugs hidden among them, packets of drugs, and a watch box.
