Education bureau to set up WeChat notification system

The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) said in a statement yesterday that it will set up a WeChat account so that it will be able to provide parents with up-to-date notifications.

The statement was made in a reply to lawmaker Ella Lei Ching I’s interpellation in March, in which she asked the government about its plans to prevent a notification mishap that occurred earlier that month. 

In March, government-broadcaster TDM mistakenly announced on its Chinese language TV channel a rainstorm warning that had actually been part of an annual drill, which inadvertently led many parents to believe that classes had been cancelled for that day.
