GEG launched the U-LEAD Program that offers a three-month internship for fresh graduates.
Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) is committed to cultivating and developing local talents. To support the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL)’s “career experience” internship scheme, GEG recently launched a U-LEAD Graduates Internship Program where DSAL’s referred fresh graduates are offered a three-month internship in a wide range of Hospitality, Gaming, Facilities Management, Design & Development and Corporate fields.
The Program aims to develop interns’ essential professional skills, and help them to gain a better insight of the company and the industry. In addition, an array of training and activities will be provided for them. The interns will be coached and guided by “SiFus” (mentors) consisting of experience team members or department heads throughout their internship period, so that they can obtain the work experiences needed for better planning of their future careers.
Tailor-Made Internship Journey
Ms. Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources & Administration of GEG thanked DSAL for launching the internship scheme with the company. She said, “GEG has been working on supporting local talent development and helping local talents discover their career paths. The U-LEAD program is designed for interns to further develop their professional skills and knowledge, and obtain a deeper understanding of integrated resort operations. Through the internship journey, we hope that the interns can experience and learn from GEG’s proud and unique ‘Asian Heart’ service philosophy and to take this opportunity to join GEG’s different activities. We hope that the interns can make good use of the platform and resources that we are providing to further broaden their horizons and enhance their abilities, which will benefit them for a lifetime.”
GEG began the careful planning of the U-LEAD program curriculum in May. The program integrates theory and practice, with each intern being required to attend up to 200 hours of corporate, departmental and on-the-job training.

Broad-Range Activities
Last month, GEG held open days for fresh graduates who were interested in the program, where the company’s latest development projects, corporate culture and career opportunities were introduced. To welcome the first batch of interns to the GEG family, an opening ceremony was held at the end of July, with attending guests of honors including Mr. Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL; Ms. Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources and Administration of GEG; and Mr. Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of GEG.
Mr. Wong Chi Hong said, “The Macau SAR Government pays close attention to the employment prospects of local young people. This year, we’ve specially launched a paid ‘career experience’ internship scheme for fresh graduates. We thank all participating companies, including GEG, for their support and cooperation. DSAL will support the participants by providing them with the latest updates and career supports. We hope that the participating university graduates can remain proactive, learn, and obtain the work experiences needed for their professional skills development, and to take this internship opportunity to strengthen their career competitiveness.”
Furthermore, GEG also invited the interns to attend the “Air Macau Local Crew Sharing Session on COVID-19 Efforts & Dream-Chasing” organized by the GEG Youth Achievement Program (YAP). The sharing session aimed to bring positive energy to the participating young people and encourage them to continue to chase their dreams despite the pandemic.

Ice-breaking games and engagement activities were held during the open days to arouse interns’ energy, encourage teamwork, and boost confidences.
The interns also attended the “Air Macau Local Crew Sharing Session on COVID-19 Efforts & Dream-Chasing” organized by the GEG Youth Achievement Program.
“SiFu-Support” Scheme
To help interns adapt to the new working environment, GEG designed a “SiFu-support” scheme and invited 80 experienced team members and department heads from different departments to become “SiFus”. They will coach and guide the fresh graduate interns throughout the three-month internship.
In addition, each intern was issued a “passport” from their “SiFus”. “SiFus” will record their learning and work progress in the passport every month, review and discuss with them their challenges and help them understand their performances and strengths.
Cultivating local talents is one of the key drivers for the sustainable development of the society. Throughout the years, GEG has provided various opportunities to support the professional development of local youths and team members. Since launching the GEG Internship Program in 2008, GEG has provided comprehensive training and integrated resort internship experiences to more than 650 tertiary education-level students. In addition, GEG has been providing training and development opportunities to support team members on achieving both vertical and lateral career paths and scaling new heights in their careers.
With the “SiFu-support” scheme, “SiFus” will coach and guide the interns during the internship.
