The Typhoon Signal No. 8 was hoisted in Macau at 7:30 a.m., the Macau Civil Protection Operations Centre (COPC) announced.
The Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ) ordered the suspension of all school classes today.
The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) said in a statement that at 3 p.m. Tropical Cyclone Nangka was estimated to be about 480 kilometres southwest of Macau. It was forecast to further move away from Macau west-northwest at around 22 km/h.
According to the SMG statement, the Signal No. 8 "will remain in effect during the day."
The COPC said in a statement that the storm surge warning was cancelled at 10 a.m.
As of 2 p.m., 21 people had sought shelter at the city's four emergency shelters, according to the COPC statement.
All public bus services have been suspended. However, taxis continued the operate.
As of 2 p.m. the COPC reported seven minor incidents caused by the typhoon, mostly damage caused by falling objects.
