Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun said yesterday that this year’s Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix would possibly be cancelled, as more and more foreign riders have told the Macau government over the past week that they would not come to the city to compete due to the city’s 14-day quarantine requirement.
Pun made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Praça do Tap Seac on the sidelines of yesterday’s Macau Sports Carnival 2020.
Pun said that this year’s Macau Grand Prix, which is slated to be held on November 19-22, would possibly have no foreign racers.
The Macau Grand Prix’s other signature Formula 3 race has already been cancelled. A so-called Formula 4 race will be held instead.
According to Wikipedia, FIA Formula 4, also called FIA F4, is an open-wheel racing car category intended for junior drivers. There is no global championship, but rather individual nations or regions can host their own championships in compliance with a universal set of rules and specifications.
Pun said that the Macau Grand Prix Organising Committee (MGPOC) was still finalising the arrangement for this year’s Macau Grand Prix, adding that the committee now aimed to make an announcement early next month on its final arrangements for the annual motor-racing event.
