The government should reconsider its plan to build a public housing estate next to Taipa’s Olympic Sports Centre, engineer Wu Chou Kit, a member of the Urban Planning Committee, said yesterday, adding that any new buildings  nearby should not be higher than the cauldron of the centre’s stadium.

The committee held a meeting at the Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau to discuss the proposed legal conditions for the possible development of 15 plots of land. The meeting, which lasted slightly over an hour, was chaired by Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario. It was partially open to the media.

The plot of land in question, which is currently used as a car park and a badminton hall, covers an area of 10,575 square metres at the junction of Rua do Colegio and Rua do Desporto, according to the committee’s website.
