Macau’s number of visitor arrivals fell by 80.5 percent year-on-year to 556,765 last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case on January 22 last year.
According to a DSEC statement, last month’s visitor arrivals dropped by 15.6 percent month-on-month.
In January, same-day visitors and overnight visitors totalled 287,818 and 268,947 respectively. Visitors’ length of stay increased by 0.4 of a day year-on-year to 1.6 days. Overnight visitors’ stay increased by 0.7 day to three days.
Last month’s number of mainland visitors fell by 76.7 percent year-on-year to 496,157, accounting for 89.1 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals. The number of visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan amounted to 50,379 and 10, 212 respectively.
Foreign nationals without the right of abode in Macau have been barred from entry since March last year.
Visitor arrivals by air and by sea stood at 23,930 and 13,919 respectively.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, ferry links between Hong Kong and Macau have been suspended since early February last year.
