A suspected sexagenarian peeping Tom was arrested on Monday over an incident in a women’s toilet in Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa in the early hours of that day, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Kam Ka Kit said in a press conference yesterday.

The 62-year-old local suspect surnamed Mak told the police that he’s a street vendor. The victim is a 30-year-old woman from the mainland.

According to Kam, the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. on Monday when the victim was going to a public toilet in Largo dos Bombeiros near Rua do Cunha in Taipa. After using the toilet, she was washing her hands when she suddenly saw Mak sneak into the toilet and crawl into a cubicle through the gap under the cubicle door. The victim was frightened and immediately went into another cubicle, telling the man to leave the toilet, after which she called the police for help.

Kam said PSP officers intercepted Mak near the public toilet later that day. Under questioning, Mak admitted that he was attracted by the woman’s beauty so he followed her into the toilet and crawled into the cubicle to peep at her. However, he told the police he didn’t take any photos or videos of the victim. The officers checked Mak’s smartphone and confirmed that there were no photos or videos of the victim on it.

Mak was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Monday, facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Article 186 of the Macau Penal Code, according to Kam. The article carries a maximum prison term of two years or a fine.
