A photo exhibition entitled “Discovering Everyday Beauty” (發現日常生活的美) by local photographer António Leong (梁舜堯), organised by the Macau Catholic Culture Association (ACCM), is being held at the group’s new office in Rua Formosa (美麗街).
The association invited Leong, who won the 2018 “Mobile Photography” National Geographic International Photo Contest, to display his photos at the exhibition to celebrate the opening of its new office last week.
According to a statement by the association, Leong was born in Macau “and fell in love with photography many years ago”. Leong started sharing his photos on Facebook in 2012 and set up his own Facebook page – Antonius Photoscript.
“Through this page, António not only has had the opportunity to participate in a number of photo exhibitions promoting Macau tourism around the world, but also has had the honour to cooperate with different charity organisations and artists in various types of photography activities, serving as an instructor and a speaker to share his photography techniques and experience,” the statement points out.
The exhibition will be held until September 30 at the new office at 2B Rua Formosa. It opens daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event displays a new set of Leong’s photographs of local churches each month for three months – The Chapel of Our Lady of Penha, St. Joseph’s Seminary and Church, and São Lourenço (St. Lawrence) Church. The photographs illustrate the integration of Catholicism with local culture over the past centuries, the statement underlines.
Catholicism is one of Macau’s main religions alongside Buddhism, Taoism and Protestantism, apart from folk belief.
The association will hold photography workshops on July 24 and August 7, to be conducted by Leong. The workshops include visits to various Catholic churches.
