LISBON - The Portuguese Judiciary Police (PJ) prevented yesterday a terrorist attack at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon.
According to the Judiciary Police (Portugal's criminal investigation department), an 18-year-old youth was arrested "in flagrante delicto" in possession of weapons and has been indicted for the crime of terrorism.
The PJ operation, which was conducted in conjunction with the National Counterterrorism Unit (UNCT), involved home searches by the police, in which a "vast amount of evidence was seized, which confirmed the initial suspicions."
In an official statement, the Judiciary Police said that the suspect had in his possession prohibited weapons and "other articles susceptible of being used in the practice of violent crimes" against "students of the University of Lisbon."
