The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers have found a 100-centimetre-long katana (samurai sword) in a parcel addressed to a South African man living in Macau, adding that the case would be transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for further questioning.

According to the statement, the officers found the sword during a regular check of parcels arriving at the General Post Office in the city centre, pointing out that since the owner of the parcel failed to show an import permit for the sword he was later questioned at Customs Service Headquarters in Barra.

According to the statement, the man told the officers that he bought the sword on the Internet, which was sent to Macau via the United States. The statement said the man told the officers that the sword was for his collection.
