A male non-resident worker from the mainland was arrested last Thursday for stealing a man’s pair of Bluetooth ear buds that had been left on a motorcycle parked in a car park in Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano in Taipa, and replacing them with his own pair of ear buds, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Leong Chi Seng said at a press briefing on Monday.

The suspect in his thirties surnamed Li works as a security guard at the car park.

According to Leong, a man reported to the Public Security Police on March 4 that his pair of Bluetooth ear buds worth 1,600 patacas that he had left on his motorcycle had vanished. He told the police that he parked his motorbike in a car park in Avenida dos Jardins do Oceano earlier that day but forgot to take the ignition key and left his ear buds there. When he returned to the car park to go out on his motorbike, he discovered that the ear buds were unable to sync with his smartphone. He then realised that the ear buds did not belong to him. He then reported the case to the police.

Leong said that PSP officers scrutinised the CCTV footage of the car park as well as nearby area and identified Li as the suspect. The officers arrested Li at the car park last Thursday. Under questioning, Li admitted to stealing the pair of ear buds. He told the police that when he walked through the car park on March 4, he saw the victim’s ear buds, which are of the same brand and colour as his, on the motorbike. He stole the ear buds out of greed and replaced them with his own.

Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Leong.
