Police arrested a local drunk rider after someone found him sleeping on his motorbike in a non-driving zone and called the police on Thursday night, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Wai Chon said during a regular press conference yesterday.

Wong said the suspect surnamed Tam is a 46-year-old renovation worker, who was found by the police in the white-lined non-driving zone on the road in front of Pui Ching Middle School in Avenida de Horta e Costa.

According to Wong, a passer-by who saw Tam lying on his bike believing that he was feeling unwell approached him only to discover that he was sleeping and reeking of alcohol.

Wong said the passer-by called the police at around 11 p.m. about the Tam’s situation and even moved him and the bike from the middle of the road to the kerb. According to Wong, Tam was given a breathalyser at the scene which showed that his alcohol concentration was 2.1 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.

Under questioning, Wong said that Tam admitted that he had been drinking a lot at dinner earlier that night, and he was so drunk that he had no memory about the passer-by helping him.

Wong underlined that Tam, who faces drink-driving charges, has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).
