A dog living in one of the city’s locked-down (“red zone”) buildings is believed to have choked to death, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, the IAM kennels received a call at 5:37 p.m. yesterday from a resident living in Vai Long Building, which is near the Barrier Gate, saying that his dog was unresponsive and required the assistance of a veterinarian.
Upon arrival at the flat at 7 p.m. yesterday, IAM kennel staff verified that the dog had died and was in a state of “moderate rigor mortis”.
The owner told the IAM staff that he or she believed that the dog had choked while eating and suffered from incontinence.
The statement noted that the IAM staff found that the opening of the dog’s windpipe was completely obstructed with solid objects, which caused its fatal asphyxia.
