A 61-year-old woman was found dead in a dwelling on the rooftop of a building on Rua da Barca on Friday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman said in a statement on that day.
The statement noted that the victim, surnamed Fong, is a local resident.
According to the statement, a resident of the building reported to the police earlier that day a foul smell emanating from the rooftop flat. The statement added that after firefighters broke open the locked metal gate of the flat, they found Fong, who had apparently been dead for a long time.
The statement said that when PJ officers arrived at the scene for investigation, they noted that the body had begun to decompose.
The statement said that the door and windows of the flat were in good condition, adding that no signs of fighting or burglary were found at the scene.
Upon examination of the body, no suspicious injuries were found, the statement noted.
No suicide note was found at the scene either, according to the statement.
The Judiciary Police have classified the case as dead body found.
The statement pointed out that the exact cause of death still needed to be determined by a forensic examination.
