The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement on Friday that the samples of a batch of frozen fish fillets imported from Vietnam tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, but the infected products have been destroyed, so none entered the local market.

According to the statement, after the COVID-19 nucleic acid test (NAT) on the samples of both internal and external packaging of the frozen fish fillets showed positive, the bureau adopted a contingency plan by sealing and destroying 20 boxes of the infected product that weighed 126 kilogrammes in total.

The statement noted that the surrounding environment where the product was temporarily stored has been thoroughly disinfected, while the personal data of the personnel who had touched the product was sent to the Health Bureau (SSM) for follow-up action.

The statement underlined that the import applications for batches of the infected product have been suspended.

The bureau urged retailers and wholesalers to reinforce the disinfection of their imported goods’ external packaging, while urging residents to wash their hands after touching imported goods in order to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
