The Judiciary Police (PJ) received a report from the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday at 11:48 a.m. that a 28-year-old local woman, who had been found with burned charcoal inside a car in Avenida de Luís de Camões in Coloane, was rushed to the public Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said in a statement on that day.

The Judiciary Police were notified by the public hospital at 5:58 p.m. on Saturday that the victim, surnamed Ieong, was certified dead after emergency treatment, the statement noted.

According to the statement, Ieong’s friend told the police that he or she contacted her at about 7 a.m. that day when Ieong, who had constantly had suicidal thoughts, sent a photo of her “intending to burn charcoal in her car”. Worrying about Ieong’s safety, the friend, whose gender was not revealed, immediately called the police.

Afterwards, the Public Security Police discovered Ieong’s car at a roadside parking spot in Avenida de Luís de Camões where they found the unresponsive victim in the car, the statement added.

The statement said that according to a PJ investigation, a sack of charcoal and a container full of ashes were found on the back seat of the car, with a suicide note.

No suspicious or criminal injuries were found on the deceased, the statement noted, which added that the exact cause of death still needed to be confirmed by a forensic examination.

The case has been preliminarily classified as dead body found, according to the statement.
