A tunnel, which would be the fifth link between the peninsula and Taipa, will possibly be located near the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, commonly known as the “Old Bridge”, Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Lam Hin San said in a statement responding to a lawmaker’s written interpellation.

Legislator Si Ka Lon submitted the written interpellation in mid-July, questioning the government’s reason for researching the feasibility of building a tunnel near the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge as the fifth link between the peninsula and Taipa, considering that the government rejected the idea of building a tunnel for the fourth link.

The government announced earlier this year that the fourth link will be a roughly 400-metre-long bridge connecting the new land reclamation area in Pac On in Taipa and the new land reclamation area around the Oriental Pearl roundabout in Kam Hoi San district.
