Two local men have been arrested separately for drunk-driving and one of them also for injuring a woman in her seventies while driving under the influence, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Lai, the Public Security Police received a report at 1 a.m. on Friday of a traffic accident in Rua dos Hortelãos in which a car had hit a woman on a zebra crossing. PSP officers who arrived at the scene found the driver surnamed Tang, who is in his thirties, reeking of alcohol, while the victim in her seventies sustained injuries to her waist.
Lai pointed out that Tang’s alcohol concentration was 1.4 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
Lai identified the suspect in the second case as a man surnamed Chan who is in his forties.
According to Lai, the Public Security Police received another report in the wee hours of Friday. The victim told the police that while driving past a convenience store on Rua de Xangai, the car in front suddenly stopped and reversed into the victim’s car.
The car in front immediately drove away and stopped again near the Holiday Inn hotel on Rua de Pequim. The victim, who was following the car along the road, approached the driver, Chan, to confront him and later called the police for help.
Lai pointed out that Chan’s alcohol concentration was 1.46 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood.
The two suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) for follow-up investigations, facing drunk-driving charges, according to Lai, who added that Tang also faces a charge of causing bodily harm by negligence, while Chan also faces a charge of evading responsibility.
