A woman committed suicide by jumping into the coastal waters off Macau Fisherman’s Wharf in Nape on Monday and was found floating in the coastal waters near Ponte da Amizade (“Friendship Bridge”) yesterday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said in a statement.

The statement noted that the Judiciary Police were notified of the corpse by the Macau Customs Service (SA) at 8:39 a.m. yesterday.

The statement said that the victim had been wandering alone in the vicinity of Macau Fisherman’s Wharf on Monday afternoon before committing suicide by jumping into the sea about three hours later.

Upon identifying the clothing, jewellery and physical features, the victim’s husband confirmed that the woman was his 46-year-old wife, whom police officers had failed to find on the day she jumped into coastal waters.

A preliminary examination of the body showed neither suspicious nor criminal-induced injuries, according to the statement, which noted that the exact cause of death has yet to be determined by a forensic examination.

The case was initially listed as a dead body found, the statement said.
