SJM to co-organise ‘2023 SJM Asia Top Sommelier Summit’

SJM Resorts is co-organising and title-sponsoring the “2023 SJM Asia Top Sommelier Summit”, gathering industry experts at Grand Lisboa Hotel and Grand Lisboa Palace (GLP) in Cotai for a series of activities, according to a statement from the integrated resort operator (IR) yesterday.

The statement noted that the industry experts are from mainland China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The statement noted that a dinner event, priced at 988 patacas per person, will be held on Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Casa Don Alfonso in Grand Lisboa, where President of Court of Master Sommeliers Brian Julyan, and CEO Ronan Sayburn, will share wine knowledge and techniques. The statement added that one can experience “the finest in Asian viticulture” at the “AWSA - Award-Winning Chinese Wines Carnival”, which features an extensive selection of over 130 award-winning Chinese wines from 32 distinguished vineyards and is slated for October 19 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Grand Lisboa’s Grand Ballroom.

Moreover, The Mesa by José Avillez will host “A Perfect Symphony of Flavours”, a dinner event featuring 11 award-winning labels and their winery owners from the 2023 Asia Wine and Spirits Awards by Sommeliers—Double Gold Award. Master Sommelier Pierre-Marie Pattieu will conduct a curated wine-tasting experience, while AWSA Jury President Wu Xiaobin will discuss the evaluation criteria for the double gold awards, according to the statement.

Six contemporary Portuguese dishes crafted by Chef Avillez from MICHELIN-starred restaurants will be served, each paired with a double gold medal-winning wine.
