Macau Blood Transfusion Service (MBTS) Hui Peng said on the sidelines of the Rotary Blood Donation Day held at NOVA Mall yesterday that the centre collected more than 18,400 units of blood from 14,200 donors last year, up by 1.39 percent year-on-year, and a total of 3,870 patients received blood from the centre last year.

The “Rotary Blood Donation Day” organised by the eight Rotary clubs in Macau and co-organised with the MBTS was held yesterday at NOVA Mall in Taipa, with the aim of promoting awareness and the need for blood donations to the general public, as well as to ensure a sufficient supply of blood reserves in the city, according to a Macau Rotary Clubs (RCs) statement yesterday.

“Both the number of blood donors and the amount of blood donated grew in 2023”, Hui told reporters during the one-day blood donation drive, adding that 2.69 percent of eligible blood donors contributed to the local blood bank last year, a blood donation rate that was higher than in many other regions and countries.

Hui said that her centre was promoting blood donations in different ways, such as increasing the number of bloodmobiles and blood donation spots to collect blood.

The Macau Rotary Clubs (RCs) still calls on individuals with a Caucasian background and donors with O-, A-, B- and AB- blood groups to get involved in blood donation activities, according to the statement released by the RCs yesterday.
