Government-appointed Central Districts Community Service Consultative Council member Ron Lam U Tou this week criticised the government for delaying construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) section between Taipa and Barra at the southern tip of the peninsula.

Barra is the Portuguese word for harbour entrance.

Lam made the remarks in an interview with The Macau Post Daily on Tuesday in an office of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions near Praça de Ponte e Horta.

Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said in his 2017 Policy Address last month that Taipa’s LRT link with Barra – via Sai Van Bridge – as well as the Barra LRT station were expected to be completed in 2024.

This photo taken last night shows the construction site of the Barra Transport Complex, with the plan to built Barra LRT station underground.
