A local university student has been arrested for stealing an unlocked bicycle parked on the roadside in Taipa’s Carmo Zone, a Public Security Police (PSP) spokesperson said at a regular press conference on Friday.

The spokesperson noted that the suspect is a 20-year-old male student surnamed Leong.

According to the spokesperson, the Public Security Police received a report from the bicycle’s owner on March 15, who said that he parked his bicycle at Carmo Zone the previous day, but could not find it there the next day, reporting a loss of 6,500 patacas.

The Public Security Police identified Leong as the suspect via the police forces’ citywide CCTV camera system and summoned him to a police station for questioning, during which he told the police that he stole the bicycle out of greed for personal use, the spokesperson said.

PSP officers recovered the stolen bicycle at Carmo Zone.

The spokesperson noted that Leong has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge.
