The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) has launched a public tender for the second phase of its green promenade project along the peninsula’s southern shore, according to an announcement published in the Official Gazette (BO) last week.
According to the announcement, potential bidders are required to submit their quotations by August 7. The bureau will unseal the submitted bids the next day.
The bureau said early this year that it expected the green promenade’s second phase to get off the ground at the end of this year.
The green promenade’s first phase, which is located between the Macau Science Centre and the Kun Iam Statue, opened in 2021. The first phase, officially known as Kun Iam Statue Waterfront Leisure Area, covers 15,000 square metres.
When the bureau launched the first phase of the green promenade in early 2020, it said that the second phase was slated to start from the Kun Iam statue, running under the Governor Nobre de Carvalho Bridge (informally known as the “old bridge”), passing near Macau Tower, before arriving near Barra.
The bureau announced further details of the second phase in January this year when it said that the second phase will first only start from the Zone B land reclamation area west of the old bridge, passing near Macau Tower, before arriving at the Gate of Understanding in Sai Van. This means that the first and second phases will not be connected.
The bureau said in January that the green promenade’s second-phase project, covering 60,000 square metres, was expected to take two years.
However, the public tender announced last week is only for “Zone 1” of the green promenade’s second phase. Last week’s announcement in the gazette did not specify the exact area to be covered by Zone 1.
According to last week’s announcement, the winning bidder will be required to complete the Zone 1 project of the green promenade’s second phase within 240 working days.
According to the gazette’s announcement, the project up for tender this time will include recreational and leisure areas, ball courts, waterfront walking/jogging trails, and fishing platforms.
This map released by the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) in January this year shows the area to be covered by the second phase of the green promenade along the peninsula’s southern shore.
