Potential chief executive candidate Sam Hou Fai yesterday met with top representatives from three industrial and commercial associations, representing the peninsula’s central and southern districts, the peninsula’s northern district, and Taipa and Coloane respectively.

In addition, Sam also met with representatives from the Macau Youth Development Service Centre yesterday.

Yesterday’s two meetings were announced in two separate statements by Sam’s election campaign office.

The two meetings were held at Sam’s election campaign office in Nam Tung Commercial Building in Nam Van.

In both meetings, Sam was accompanied by lawyer Lei Wun Kong, the trustee of his election campaign, lawmaker-cum-banker Ip Sio Kai, the election campaign office’s head, and educator Chan Ka Leong, the office’s deputy head.

According to a statement, the representatives from the three business associations raised opinions and suggestions on topics such as measures aiming to boost community businesses, improve the business environment, and support local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) suffering financial hardship.

According to the statement, the representatives also suggested that Sam’s administration set up a special team to study how to support community businesses.

Sam said during the meeting that his administration would study how to further improve Macau’s business environment as well as measures aiming to consolidate the city’s tourism and leisure industry and promote appropriate economic diversification.

According to a separate statement, the representatives from the Macau Youth Development Service Centre, which was set up last year, briefed Sam about the various services provided by the centre.

Sam said that the meeting enabled him to gain a better understanding of the current situation that young local people are facing for their personal and career development.

Campaign office meets with Oxfam

Meanwhile, Lei, Ip and Chan met with representatives of charity organisation Oxfam at Sam’s election campaign office yesterday such as Oxfam Hong Kong Director General Kalina Tsang Ka-wai.

Oxfam Hong Kong runs programmes and services for Hong Kong proper, Macau, the mainland, and the Taiwan region.

Sam did not attend the meeting with the Oxfam representatives, who briefed Lei, Ip and Chan about the non-governmental organisation’s (NGOs) various services provided in Macau.

Campaign office meets with municipal electors

Meanwhile, Sam’s election campaign office said in another statement yesterday that Lei, Ip and Chan have “recently” held a meeting with the two electors on the Chief Executive Election Committee representing the city’s municipal organs (Municipal Affairs Bureau/IAM), Hoi Lok Man and Lam Ka Chun.

The statement did not mention when the meeting, which Sam did not attend, was held.

Hoi and Lam are members of the Municipal Affairs Bureau’s consultative committee.

According to the statement, Hoi and Lam voiced support for Sam running for the city’s top job.

Sam or his campaign office representatives have now met with electors from all sectors on the Chief Executive Election Committee.

Sam will submit his candidacy nomination form endorsed by members of the committee to the Chief Executive Electoral Affairs Commission (CAECE) at the Public Administration Building today, according to a press invitation from his office, i.e., two days before the deadline.

The election will take place on October 13.
