BEIJING - The State Council in Beijing has appointed 9 principal officials of the sixth-term government of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) and the prosecutor general of the Public Prosecutions Office.

The appointments were made in accordance with the Basic Law of the MSAR of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and based on nominations by Sam Hou Fai, the sixth-term chief executive of the MSAR, said the State Council in a statement.

Sam, the former president of the MSAR’s Court of Final Appeal (TUI), is slated to sworn in as Macau’s next chief executive on December 20.

André Cheong Weng Chon was reappointed Secretary for Administration and Justice, Tai Kin Ip appointed Secretary for Economy and Finance, and Wong Sio Chak reappointed Secretary for Security.

Tai is the current director of Macau’s Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT).

O Lam was appointed Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Raymond Tam Vai Man appointed Secretary for Transport and Public Works, Ao Ieong Seong appointed Commissioner Against Corruption, and Elsie Ao Ieong U appointed Commissioner of Audit (CA).

Tam is the current director of Macau’s Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA), O is the vice-president of the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM), Ao Ieong Seong is one of the two deputy commissioners of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) and Elsie Ao Ieong is the current Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture.

Leong Man Cheong was reappointed Commissioner General of the Unitary Police Service (SPU), Ho Hou Hon, also known as Adriano Marques Ho, appointed Director General of the Macao Customs Service (SA), and Chan Tsz King appointed Prosecutor General (Chief Public Prosecutor) of the Public Prosecutions Office (MP).

Ho is the current director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), while Chan is the current Commissioner of the CCAC.

The newly appointed officials and the prosecutor general will take office on December 20, said the statement, coinciding with the 25th Anniversary of the establishment of the MSAR.

Unlike in the Hong Kong SAR, the MSAR’s principal officials do not include a chief secretary. The portfolios of Macau’s five secretaries depend directly on the policies delegated to them by the chief executive, who is assisted by an advisory Executive Council. The five secretaries are listed in terms of protocol, not political hierarchy.
