The owners of some of the dilapidated shipyards in Coloane’s Lai Chi Vun Village urged the government yesterday not to demolish the buildings, so as to preserve a historic part of the city’s collective memory.
They also slammed the government for fencing off 11 shipyards in May last year without telling them or saying why, so that they were unable to enter the properties to carry out repairs. An ad-hoc concern group for the preservation of Coloane’s Lai Chi Vun Village held a press conference yesterday, in response to the controversial remarks by an official from the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) during Sunday’s Macau Forum open-air debate hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM.
