Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a statement on Wednesday that over 300 volunteers from the company, Caritas Macau’s “Longevity” Special Care Centre and Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) assembled 3,000 food kits for those in need.
The event, which took place at The Venetian Macao in Cotai that day, was for the fourth annual Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build initiative.
The statement said that the 3,000 kits, weighing a total of 30 tonnes, comprised 16 items each such as biscuits and staple foods like cooking oil, rice, oatmeal, noodles, and tinned food. They were bought from local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and charitable organisations including soup packs from Tung Sin Tong and reusable bags from Fuhong Society of Macau.
The statement said that the company’s “Sands Cares Ambassadors” will help Caritas Macau deliver the kits to beneficiaries such as seniors, the disabled, poor families, aid recipients, and food bank recipients.
Seniors who volunteered from the “Longevity” Centre and the MPU students also received “Volunteer Service Certificates” for their participation.
Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted by the statement as saying that 11,600 food kits have been assembled consecutively since 2022. “When our team members volunteer their personal time for service activities, the Sands Cares concept turns into tangible warmth, injecting positive energy into the Macau community”.
Caritas Macau Secretary-General Paul Pun Chi Meng thanked Sands China for its donation to the charity’s service recipients, benefiting them and hoping to reduce their daily burdens. “This kind gesture is not only material support, but also a manifestation of society’s care for the vulnerable. Sands China’s long-term partnership with Caritas Macau demonstrates the value of companies and social welfare organisations working together to build a caring community”.
