The Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) forecast in a statement yesterday evening that Macau’s temperature will drop to as low as 14 degrees Celsius this week.

According to the weather station, under the influence of the replenishment of a northeastern monsoon, northerly winds are expected to strengthen and the mercury is expected to drop starting today.

The observatory said that the weather in Macau will be cool and dry in the morning and at night, when the temperature will drop to around 14 degrees Celsius by the middle to latter part of this week.

The bureau urged the public to pay attention to weather changes, take precautions to stay warm and be wary of the risk of fire.

Those in need may seek protection from the low temperature by spending the night at the Social Welfare Bureau’s (IAS) cold shelter, provided that the weather station hoists the Yellow or Orange* cold weather alert.

The shelter is located at 34 Rua Leste da Ilha Verde, Edifício do Bairro da Ilha Verde (青洲東街34號青洲坊大廈E1的避寒中心).

For more information, one can visit the websites of the local observatory and Social Welfare Bureau.

Meanwhile, the observatory announced in a separate statement yesterday evening that the air quality level is expected to be “bad” today. The bureau urged members of the public afflicted by heart or respiratory conditions, as well as pregnant woman, children and the elderly to reduce to a minimum strenuous activity outdoors, as well as shorten one’s stay outside as much as possible, such as in areas affected by heavy vehicular traffic.

*The Orange cold weather alert signifies that it is “very cold” in the city. “Yellow” warns of “cold” weather.
