Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a statement yesterday that it was named an “Exemplar” in five categories of the 2025 Business Sustainability Indices (BSI) by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

The statement said that the company garnered four Top 3 rankings, namely in “Global (Asia-Pacific) Business Sustainability Index”, “Greater China Business Sustainability Index”, “Greater Bay Area Business Sustainability Index” and “Hong Kong Business Sustainability Index”, being the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise in Macau to have a Top 3 ranking in the BSI.

BSI, which launched in 2015, assessed 385 listed companies in Hong Kong, China’s Taiwan region, Shenzhen, and Shanghai, and global hotel chains, the statement noted. It recognises companies that positively impact society and the environment, ranking and scoring indices on value (comprising vision and mission), process (management and practice) and impact. They evaluate a company’s vision, management practices, and contributions to society, the environment and stakeholders, the statement said.

The integrated resort operator was also ranked in the top 10 companies in the “Greater China Hotel Business Sustainability Index”.  Moreover, they received the “Hong Kong Business Sustainability Index 10th Anniversary Decade of Excellence Award – Sustainability Progress” for the first time for its years of implementing “a progressive strategy for corporate social responsibility and sustainability”, according to the statement.

Sands China Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Grant Chum Kwan Lock was quoted by the statement as saying that in all, it testifies to “the remarkable progress we have made in our environmental, social and governance strategies over the years. We will continue to fulfil our corporate social responsibility, integrate sustainable development into all aspects of our business, and optimise measures to benefit environmental and social development, setting a benchmark for the industry”.
