Grassroots lawmakers Ng Kuok Cheong and Au Kam San said yesterday that they will try to petition National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee Chairman Zhang Dejiang tomorrow during his visit to the Legislative Assembly (AL) building, urging the state leader to be aware of the “necessity” of setting up electoral systems to elect the chief executive and all lawmakers by universal suffrage.

The Government Spokesperson’s Office has announced that Zhang will pay a visit to the city from today until Wednesday, adding Zhang will make “important statements” during the visit.

The government did not elaborate on what the “important statements” will be about.
