Financial Intelligence Office (GIF) Director Ng Man Seong said yesterday the government hopes that the city’s recently toughened anti-money laundering law will improve enforcement by facilitating the arraignment and prosecution of money-laundering suspects.

Ng made the remarks during a press conference at her office in the Bank of China (BOC) Building in Nam Van where she announced the results of the Mutual Evaluation Report (MER) recently released by the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG).

According to Ng, the evaluation consists of two sections, namely the technical and effectiveness compliance. Among the 11 items of the effectiveness compliance, Macau obtained a “substantial” rating of six, a “moderate” rating of three, and a “low” rating of two.
