Guest speakers and members of the audience at yesterday’s Macau Forum were starkly divided on whether the government should continue to build subsidised home-ownership scheme (HOS) flats.

While a number of members of the audience said young people should not rely on the construction of HOS flats and instead work hard so that they can afford to buy a flat in the private market in the future, several other members of the audience said that property prices in the private market are far beyond the range that most residents can afford.

The weekly open-air debate is hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park every Sunday.
