A local woman was found to have fallen to her death on Friday in Areia Preta while a local man was found to have committed suicide in peninsula’s reservoir in Zape on Saturday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in two statements.
In the first statement, the police identified the deceased as a 26-year-old woman surnamed Yu.
The police said that according to Yu’s family, Yu became depressed recently due to work and relationship issues. At 5 a.m. on Friday, Yu left home in Avenida 1 de Maio. Her family tried to reach her but to avail, and then called the Public Security Police (PSP). That same morning, a passer-by saw a body lying near a car parked at the roadside, just outside the residential building where Yu lived. The woman, who was later confirmed to be Yu, was rushed to the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre for treatment. The hospital notified the Judiciary Police at 7:10 a.m. that Yu had been pronounced dead.
