Macau residents’ unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 2.3 percent in the December 2018-February 2019 survey period over the previous period (November 2018-January 2019), the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.
According to a DSEC statement, Macau’s general unemployment rate, which comprises local and non-resident workers, remained unchanged at 1.7 percent during the two survey periods.
Macau’s total labour force stood at 394,800 during the December-February period, when the labour force participation rate amounted to 70.8 percent. Total employment was 388,100, while the number of employed residents totalled 283,600, down by 3,400 and 3,500 respectively from the previous period. Employment in gaming and junket businesses dropped, while that in hotels and restaurants increased.
